About COMTO Washington State

Leaders from Sound Transit, King County Metro, Systems Consulting, TriUnity, and others created COMTO Washington State in 2017. As part of the nation’s premier multimodal advocacy organization in the transportation industry, we work to enhance workforce development, connect talent to opportunities, and uplift all lived experience in the transportation industry.

Created in 1971 on the campus of Howard University, today COMTO is a 40-chapter nonprofit 501(c)(3) with more than 3,000 members across the United States and Canada. COMTO represents more than three million people who work at every level and in all modes of the transportation industry — from highways and roads to mass transit systems, from subways to rail systems, and from port authorities to airports. This includes trucking, taxi, and limousine services.

We believe all lived experience moves the world. We believe the leadership of a massive industry with the responsibility of transporting all people all the time should reflect communities they serve. That commitment to uplifting all people moves us forward every day.

Our Mission

COMTO’s mission is to provide full access to employment, career and contract opportunities for veterans, adults with disabilities, women, and people of color within the transportation industry. Over the past 50 years our mandate has evolved to include not only public transportation industry executives, but also professionals at every level of industry encompassing a variety of fields and disciplines. Now, as was then, members are encouraged to share information, opportunities, and personal expertise. With 40 chapters throughout the United States, our mission remains relevant as we strive to provide full access to employment, career, and contract opportunities for people of all lived experience within the transportation industry. In March 2017, a small group of public and private sector professionals committed to COMTO’s mission founded the Washington state chapter of COMTO as the 32nd chapter in North America.
