A word from Grantley Martelly
Welcome to our first edition of the COMTO Washington chapter’s new newsletter. I am delighted to have reached another milestone in our 2022-2024 Strategic Plan, more importantly, in our commitment to better communication among our members, supporters and allies.
We look forward to sharing news about you and your accomplishments, opportunities and training for both agency and business members, scholarship awards, internships, small business stories, and building our community and networks.

I'm pleased to report on a successful Interstate Bridge Replacement Meet & Greet held earlier this month. There was strong turnout and a great presentation and discussion program supporting the ongoing efforts of our WSDOT counterparts on the work that is to come from the Disparity Study. Special thanks to Greg Johnson, Frank Green, Aidan Gronauer, and Johnnel Bell!

Opportunities for persons of color are under attack here in Washington and across the country, whether in promotions and leadership levels or access to business opportunities. Let us not lose heart and remember those who have paved the way and are paving the way by their sacrifices. Let us commit to building on that legacy and not be afraid of intimidation or investigation. Let us stand for truth. Let us not fight each other for one seat at the table but take our seats with dignity, resolved to immediately begin making room for others even if we have to enlarge the existing table. May we commit to taking on the challenge of not allowing the reversal of the progress that so many have worked so hard to attain and upon which we thrive.
