DOSSIER.
Karla Butler
Owner and Principal
Document control is vital in project management for ensuring everyone uses the right info, preventing costly errors, boosting efficiency, and meeting compliance by organizing, tracking, and managing project documents (like drawings and contracts) to maintain version accuracy, accountability (audit trails), and clear communication, acting as the project’s backbone for smooth operations and risk mitigation.
As document control specialists with over 20 years of industry experience, Dossier has worked on many of Seattle’s largest infrastructure projects for Sound Transit, WSDOT, and King County.
Their story began at the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum in Bristol, England, where their founder, Karla Butler worked in the museum library. This experience enabled her to understand how important it is to invest in good record management and launched her career in archiving.
Karla began working as an archivist in Seattle on architectural and engineering projects. Throughout her tenure, she acquired extensive knowledge of managing documentation and safeguarding project information.
She launched Dossier in 2022 as a one-person company, and within 2 years, tripled her Document Control team and added Operations and Marketing functions to support and manage the company’s growth.
At Dossier, the team knows that good document control is rooted in actively listening to clients and implementing cohesive document control management plans that will sustain and contribute to every project’s success.
Thank you to Karla and the Dossier team for their active support and participation in COMTO WA!
