GRANTLEY MARTELLY
Shongi Services, LLC
CEO and Founder | COMTO WA President
Grantley Martelly is the 2024-2026 COMTO WA chapter president and the owner of Shongi Services LLC, which he established after retiring. Grantley’s goals for COMTO WA included encouraging more robust volunteer participation, increasing our influence with transportation agencies in the Puget Sound area, and developing new partnerships with students and faculty in high schools, universities, and trade schools.
Grantley started out in the environmental industry leading environmental site clean-ups for industrial contamination and safety. Transporting hazardous materials presented him opportunities into the transportation industry, from which he became the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) environmental manager for 20 years. As he was promoted within the Authority, Grantley obtained his master’s degree in transportation management and was promoted to Regional General Manager. A career highlight was leading UTA to become the first double ISO-certified transportation agency in the nation with both ISO 14000 (environmental management systems) and ISO 9000 (quality and performance management systems, environmental and safety certifications for internal auditing) certifications.
After a 20-year career at UTA, Grantley shifted to consulting in Seattle on Sound Transit and King County Metro (KCM) contracts, traveling back and forth between Seattle and Salt Lake City. He then became King County Metro’s Managing Director of Safety and Security, which led him to the opportunity as Chief Operating Officer of Pierce Transit.
Grantley was first introduced to COMTO whilst at UTA, where there was not enough local support to start a chapter. When he began working at KCM, Grantley was invited into the new COMTO chapter that KCM, Sound Transit, Triunity, and City of Seattle were creating. After months of co-organizing, COMTO WA hosted its first formalized lunch in 2017. Lessons learned from Denver’s COMTO chapter helped COMTO WA gear up for the first WA chapter gala in the same year.
After 35 years serving the transportation industry, Grantley is looking forward to travelling the world and taking different modes of public transportation, observing their operations and stations. He will be providing transportation consulting and strategic advisory services for projects around the world, as well as providing sound and audio video technology services to his local church as a long-time sound technician! Most of all, Grantley is excited to spend more time with family, especially his seven grandchildren.
